PM Modi Welcomes UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed at Delhi Airport During Brief India Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday personally welcomed UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Delhi airport during his short visit to India. According to sources quoted by news agency ANI, the UAE President’s visit is expected to last around two hours, with key discussions scheduled to take place in the national capital later in the evening.
The high-profile visit comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia, including strained Iran-US relations, continued instability in Gaza, and the unresolved conflict in Yemen involving Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Officials indicated that regional developments are likely to feature prominently during the talks, and several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed.
Sharing details of the visit on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi described Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed as his “brother” and highlighted the strength of India-UAE relations.
“Went to the airport to welcome my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. His visit illustrates the importance he attaches to a strong India-UAE friendship. Looking forward to our discussions,” PM Modi wrote.
The Prime Minister also shared photographs from the meeting, including images of the two leaders sharing a warm embrace and travelling together in a car, reflecting the close personal and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the visit was undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi and builds on the strong momentum of recent high-level exchanges between India and the UAE. These include the visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, in September 2024, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, in April 2025.
The visit also coincides with significant developments in West Asia, as US President Donald Trump prepares to launch Phase 2 of the Gaza Peace Plan, which aims to establish a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.
This marks Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s third official visit to India since assuming office as UAE President and his fifth visit to the country in the last decade, underscoring the depth and continuity of the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi.
