Nick Jonas Praises SS Rajamouli and Priyanka Chopra’s Upcoming Film Varanasi, Calls It “Incredible”
Singer and actor Nick Jonas has expressed his admiration for Indian music and showered praise on director SS Rajamouli and wife Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming film Varanasi, which marks her long-awaited return to Indian cinema.
Speaking on the Zach Sang Show, Nick Jonas opened up about the scale and ambition of Varanasi, calling it Rajamouli’s “next big project.” He revealed that Priyanka has been shooting for the film for nearly 14 months.
“Priyanka has been shooting one movie for 14 months, on and off. It’s a South Indian film with SS Rajamouli, who directed RRR. This is his next big film; it’s going to be incredible,” Nick said.
Nick Jonas also shared his deep appreciation for Indian and Hindi music, highlighting how cinematic storytelling and music go hand in hand. “The melodies are just so incredible. They’re on a scale we’re not as familiar with here. I love how music often comes from films and becomes famous,” he said. He added that Indian cinema’s tradition of turning music into large-scale celebrations — even inside theatres — is particularly inspiring to him.
Varanasi was officially launched with a puja ceremony in January, though visuals from the event were kept private to avoid revealing Mahesh Babu’s look. Later, Priyanka confirmed her role as the female lead after arriving in Hyderabad for the shoot. Her first-look poster showcased her in a striking, action-packed avatar. The actor plays the role of Mandakini and has hinted at a “sensational” song featuring Mahesh Babu, raising excitement among fans.
