An explosion smashes through a pub in the Swiss tourist town of Crans Montana, killing several people.

Numerous people were killed and injured when an explosion shook the posh ski resort of Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

During the New Year's celebrations in the upscale Swiss Alpine resort town of Crans-Montana, a terrible explosion struck a packed bar, killing several people and injuring dozens more, according to authorities on Thursday.

The reason of the explosion, which happened early in the morning, is yet unknown, according to police in the southwestern canton of Valais. Police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion informed news agency AFP that many people were hurt in the event, including fatalities.

"There has been an unidentified explosion. According to Lathion, who was cited in the story, "there are several injured and several dead."
