Indian stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 closed in the green on Wednesday, February 25, supported by positive global cues. However, gains were capped due to selling pressure in heavyweight stocks like Reliance Industries and State Bank of India (SBI).

The BSE Sensex settled at 82,276.07, rising 50 points (0.06%), while the Nifty 50 closed 58 points (0.23%) higher at 25,482.50.

Meanwhile, broader markets outperformed frontline indices, helping investors add over ₹1 lakh crore in wealth in a single trading session.

Mid and small-cap stocks delivered stronger returns compared to large caps:

The total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies increased to ₹467 lakh crore, up from ₹465.6 lakh crore in the previous session.

The Sensex surged as much as 732 points intraday, while Nifty reclaimed 25,652 before profit booking erased most gains.

On the positive side, ICICI Bank, TCS, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, and Tata Steel supported the market.

Market experts noted that renewed tariff-related comments from the US President and geopolitical tensions capped gains, along with weakness in the Indian Rupee.

However, a breakdown below 25,350 could push the index towards 25,150 and 24,950 in the short term.
