Delhi Police Arrest 8 Suspects With Alleged ISI and Bangladesh Links; Security Heightened in Capital
Delhi Police have arrested eight individuals — six from Tamil Nadu and two from West Bengal — over alleged links to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and suspected Bangladeshi extremist organisations, according to ANI.
Officials said the six suspects detained in Tamil Nadu are being brought to Delhi for further questioning. Among them, one individual is reportedly a Bangladeshi citizen.
Multiple Devices and SIM Cards Recovered
Police confirmed that several digital devices were seized during the operation, including multiple mobile phones and SIM cards. Authorities stated that the suspects were allegedly connected through social media platforms.
According to investigators, the accused were in contact with one another online and are suspected of sharing content supportive of Pakistan-based extremist groups.
Arrests Across Tamil Nadu and West Bengal
The Tamil Nadu arrests were carried out in:
- Uthukuli
- Palladam
- Thirumuruganpoondi
Police sources said the suspects were employed in the garment industry and allegedly used fake Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities.
Two additional arrests were made in West Bengal as part of the coordinated operation.
Alleged Reconnaissance and Delhi Visit Under Probe
Delhi Police stated that the accused are suspected of conducting reconnaissance (recce) activities in multiple cities. According to sources, a group of four had previously visited Delhi during a major international summit and allegedly posted provocative material at a metro station before returning to their respective states.
Authorities are also investigating possible links to a Bangladesh-based organisation.
Intelligence Alert in Delhi
The arrests come amid heightened security in the national capital following an intelligence alert regarding a possible terror threat near the Red Fort area.
According to intelligence inputs cited by ANI, certain religious locations in the Chandni Chowk area were identified as potential targets. Sources indicated that the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was allegedly planning an attack involving an improvised explosive device (IED). Security around key locations in Delhi has since been tightened as a precautionary measure.
Officials have not confirmed any imminent threat but said investigations are ongoing.
Investigation Continues
Delhi Police said further interrogation is underway to determine the full scope of the network, its funding sources, and any cross-border connections. Security agencies are coordinating with state authorities to assess potential risks and prevent any untoward incidents.
More details are expected as the investigation progresses.
