Deepinder Goyal Steps Down as Eternal CEO to Pursue New Ideas; Outlines What’s Next for Him and the Company
Deepinder Goyal has stepped down as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Eternal, effective February 1, citing his desire to explore a new set of high-risk ideas outside the constraints of a public company.
In a letter addressed to shareholders, Goyal explained that he has recently felt drawn toward ideas that require experimentation and risk-taking—initiatives he believes are better pursued independently rather than within a listed company.
“I have found myself drawn to a set of new ideas that involve significantly higher-risk exploration and experimentation. These are the kinds of ideas that are better pursued outside a public company like Eternal,” he said.
Goyal added that while he personally has the bandwidth to manage his responsibilities at Eternal alongside exploring new ventures, the expectations and legal obligations tied to leading a public company in India demand complete focus.
“If these ideas belonged within Eternal, I would have pursued them here. But they do not,” he noted in the letter.
What’s Next for Deepinder Goyal?
Although Goyal has not disclosed details about his next venture, he clarified that he will remain actively involved with Eternal in a strategic capacity. He emphasized his long-standing commitment to the company, which he has helped build over the last 18 years.
“I have spent almost half my life building this company, and I will continue doing that,” Goyal wrote, adding that he will keep working closely with the leadership team.
He said his focus going forward will be on long-term strategy, organisational culture, leadership development, and ethics and governance—areas he has increasingly concentrated on in recent times.
What’s Next for Eternal?
Following Goyal’s exit from the CEO role, Albinder Singh Dhindsa, the current CEO of Blinkit, will take over as the new CEO of Eternal. Goyal will continue to serve on the board as Vice Chairman.
Highlighting Dhindsa’s leadership credentials, Goyal praised his role in building Blinkit’s team, culture, and supply chain operations.
“He has the DNA of a battle-hardened founder, and his ability to execute far exceeds mine,” Goyal said, noting that Blinkit remains Eternal’s biggest growth opportunity and will continue to be Dhindsa’s top priority.
