Amazon Layoffs: US, UK and India Likely to Be Hit as E-Commerce Giant Cuts 16,000 Jobs
Amazon has announced a fresh round of layoffs, confirming plans to cut 16,000 jobs globally—marking its second major workforce reduction in the past four months.
Earlier, the company had revealed plans to eliminate 14,000 roles. With the latest announcement, the total number of jobs cut since October 2025 has now risen to 30,000.
While initial reports did not specify which regions or teams would be affected, internal communications have now offered greater clarity on the scope of the latest job cuts.
Geographies likely to be affected
According to a report by Business Insider, the most recent round of layoffs is expected to impact employees in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. The publication, citing internal messages shared on Amazon’s workplace communication platform Slack, said employees across these regions have already begun receiving notifications related to the job cuts.
Departments facing job cuts
The layoffs are expected to span multiple divisions across Amazon’s business, including both its technology and retail operations.
On the technology side, teams within Amazon Web Services (AWS) are likely to be affected. This includes units working on the AI cloud service Bedrock and the cloud data warehouse Redshift.
Within the retail business, roles linked to the Prime subscription service and the Delivery Experience team, which manages last-mile logistics, are also expected to be reduced. Additionally, Amazon’s ProServe consulting division may see job losses.
While the exact number of layoffs per department has not been disclosed, Business Insider noted that many employees seeking new roles internally were software engineers, indicating that technology roles may be among the most impacted.
Support for US-based employees
Amazon has stated that most affected employees in the US will be given a 90-day window to search for alternative roles within the company. Employees who are unable to secure another position, or who choose not to pursue internal opportunities, will receive support that includes severance pay and continued health insurance coverage.
However, it remains unclear whether similar support packages will be extended to employees affected in other regions, including the UK and India.
