Relations between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma become strained; the BCCI is concerned as the head coach of India is cornered: Report

According to a Dainik Jagran article, the environment in the ODI dressing room has been negatively impacted by the relationship between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma.

After defeating South Africa by 17 runs to win the series' opening game and take a 1-0 lead, the Indian ODI squad now has plenty to celebrate. Considering the recent 1-2 loss in Australia, this was a much-needed outcome. With consecutive victories in ODI cricket, India may be able to put an end to the devastating 0-2 whitewash at the hands of South Africa. Although ODIs are rare, this was only the second ODI series.

Let's get straight to the point. Without Kohli and Rohit, Indian cricket is no longer the same. Despite winning the Asia Cup and drawing the Test series in England, this Indian team's lack of star power has somewhat detracted from their success. As a result, ODIs became popular again when they returned for the Australia matches in October. It's almost like the good old days have come back because of how well Kohli and Rohit have played for the past two games. Rohit has scored 73, 121 not out, and 57, while Kohli has scored 74 and 135. Ro-Ko appears to be in its element, the crowd is having a great time, and social media is going crazy.

The environment in the Indian ODI dressing room is still concerning, though, despite the positive emotions. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the presence of Kohli and Rohit has altered the dynamics in ODIs, even though everything appears perfectly normal in India's T20I and Test setups. According to the report, two batting mainstays of Indian cricket no longer have the same relationship with head coach Gautam Gambhir, and their relationship has become almost icy.

"Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma don't get along as well as they should, and there may be a discussion about the two players' futures. According to a BCCI source cited by Jagran, "This could take place either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam, venues for the second and third ODIs."

In fact, Ro-Ko's relationship with the decision-makers has become so strained that Rohit and Ajit Agarkar, the BCCI head of selectors, did not get along during the Australia ODIs. For the first time since March, Kohli and Rohit made their eagerly anticipated comebacks to Indian cricket during that series, and they were somewhat successful in doing so. This also applies to Kohli and Gambhir, who haven't spoken much throughout the current South Africa ODIs.

The extreme criticism of Gambhir on social media has angered the BCCI.

"There was no interaction between Rohit and Agarkar during the Australia series. Even Kohli and Gambhir haven't communicated much since then. Additionally, the BCCI is offended by the way that supporters of Kohli and Rohit are disparaging Gambhir on social media, the article continued.

The bittersweet relationship between Gambhir and Kohli has a long history. Before their two contentious IPL bust-ups in 2013 and 2023, the two played a lot of cricket together for Delhi and India. But since Gambhir became head coach, the two appeared to have reconciled. Or so it appeared. In a film released by the BCCI last year, the two even appeared together. Gambhir and Kohli were frequently spotted laughing together—until they stopped. Over time, those endearing images became less frequent, especially after Kohli and Rohit announced their retirement from Test cricket within a week of one another.
