Users can browse and download a variety of apps from OpenAI's ChatGPT app store. The platform offers both interactive apps and connectors for data access, and developers may design chat-native experiences.
Users can now browse and download every program that is currently available for ChatGPT through OpenAI's fully functional app store. Additionally, the San Francisco-based AI startup has made its Apps SDK available to developers so they can create "chat-native experiences that bring context and action directly into ChatGPT."
By adding fresh context and enabling users to perform tasks like ordering groceries, converting an outline into a PowerPoint deck, or looking for an apartment, apps expand ChatGPT interactions." An explanation of OpenAI in a blog post.
"The strongest apps are tightly scoped, intuitive in chat, and deliver clear value by either completing real-world workflows that start in conversation or enabling new, fully AI-native experiences inside ChatGPT," the business noted, offering developers guidance on what apps they should be working on.
Additionally, the company stated that it is renaming the connectors on the platform that facilitate the importation of data from other websites, such as Google Drive, as well as apps.
"Apps with interactive user interfaces and connectors that enable you to search and access your data in ChatGPT are now included in this definition. Previously enabled connectors and corporate knowledge will continue to function as before; we are not eliminating any current capability. The business clarified.
How does the ChatGPT app operate?
The ChatGPT App Store, or "app directory" as the company refers to it, can be accessed through the tools menu on the ChatGPT app or website, or by going straight to chatgpt.com/apps. According to OpenAI, developers can direct visitors to their app page on its directory by using deep links on other platforms.
The ChatGPT app doesn't direct users to a new interface, in contrast to a traditional app store like the Google Play Store or Apple's App Store. Rather, these applications operate within ChatGPT and may be called upon by simply uttering their name.
Additionally, OpenAI claims to be leveraging signals such as conversational context, app usage trends, and user preferences to display "relevant, helpful apps directly within conversations." The AI business is also investigating ways to monetize its apps, such as through digital goods.
The first set of authorized apps will start to roll out gradually in the new year, according to OpenAI. Developers must submit their apps for approval on the OpenAI Developer Platform.
"Apps that satisfy our quality and safety requirements can be published in the app directory, and apps that are popular with users might be highlighted more prominently in the directory or suggested by ChatGPT in the future." The business added.
SpotifyCanva, DoorDash, Figma, Zillow, Booking.com, and Expedia are the apps that are now accessible on ChatGPT. Additionally, the company has integrated the Apple Music app into ChatGPT, which enables users to manage music libraries, create playlists, and search music.
