Goa nightclub fire: The state administration has launched a magistrate's investigation and promised to take punishment against anyone who disregarded safety laws.
A fire that broke out at Birch near Romeo Lane, a popular party place in Arpora village, North Goa, after midnight claimed the lives of at least 25 people.

Six individuals were hurt, including both staff members and guests.

According to police, four guests and fourteen employees were among the dead, and the names of the remaining seven were still unknown, as reported by PTI.

"It looks like the fire started on the upper floor based on my preliminary investigation," stated Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of the state. Narrow and crowded entrances severely decreased escape chances, he said in an interview with PTI.

Others were unable to escape as the flames grew more intense. Due to inadequate ventilation, several people who made their way to the underground location perished from suffocation, he continued.

The well-liked party location opened last year in Arpora village, which is around 25 kilometers from Panaji, the state capital. Sawant declared, "We will take action against the club management and also against the officials who allowed it to operate despite flouting safety norms."

Sawant mandated a magisterial investigation. "The club owners are the subject of an arrest warrant. There have already been arrests of managers and others. Anyone found guilty will be imprisoned. This morning, PM Modi contacted me and requested all the information. He also requested information about the injured. I briefed the PM in detail...Goa Government will take all steps to ensure that such an incident never happens in future," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier expressed his sorrow and said that the next of kin of each person killed in the fire accident in Arpora, Goa, would receive an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh. The Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide ₹50,000 to the injured.
