It was more than just a ceremonial cameo when Virat Kohli made his Vijay Hazare Trophy comeback in his first match in over 15 years. In addition to dragging Delhi over the finish line with a full-volume ODI-style century, it also rekindled the World Cup Kohli debate.
As Delhi chased down 299 to defeat Andhra, Kohli scored 131 off 101 balls while playing at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He became the second Indian, behind Sachin Tendulkar, to surpass 16,000 List A runs after the knocks. It came just after he scored consecutive ODI hundreds for India against South Africa in early December, a run that has made it impossible to classify his performance as "nice but..."

Rajkumar Sharma, his boyhood coach, told ANI that the domestic ton was just a continuation of the same wave.

Similar to his recent two hundred for India, he maintained that momentum tonight, batted brilliantly once more, and helped Delhi win the game. "He returned to domestic cricket after a long absence and had an absolutely fantastic innings," Sharma told ANI.
Since Virat Kohli focuses most of his work on 50-over cricket, domestic List A is the best area to maintain pace and make quick decisions in between international windows. He not only scored on this particular day, but he did it at an impressive rate, reaching his century in just 83 balls and controlling the chase once he was set.
Sharma's main argument was that Kohli is still India's best option in a tournament build-up that ultimately leads to the 2027 ODI World Cup because of his consistency.

Delhi has a fantastic start to the tournament with two points. It is obvious to Indian management that Kohli is hungry.
