Dense fog in Srinagar continues to impair visibility, affecting flights to and from Srinagar, according to a statement released by IndiGo on Sunday.
On Sunday, December 21, the national airline of India, IndiGo, issued a fresh caution stating that aircraft operations in Bangalore, Amritsar, and Srinagar were affected by thick fog.
Around 11.20 a.m. on Sunday, IndiGo issued a statement stating, "Dense fog in Srinagar continues to affect visibility, impacting flights operating to and from Srinagar."
"As conditions evolve, some services may experience delays, and a few may need to be cancelled depending on clearance and operational feasibility," IndiGo stated.
Flight schedules were affected by fog and poor visibility over Bangalore and Amritsar, according to a statement released earlier in the day by IndiGo.
"We're keeping a close watch on the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly," the airline stated.
Flyers were asked by IndiGo to keep track on the status of their flights. "Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support," it continued.
"Here's hoping clearer skies help us serve you better soon, and thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time," the company stated.
"We guarantee that as conditions improve, our personnel will continue to work closely with the authorities to ensure a seamless resumption of operations. I appreciate your understanding and patience. We anticipate having clearer skies and having you join us shortly," it continued.
West Bengal's Bagdogra Airport also reported that heavy fog may have an impact on flights to and from the city, according to news agency ANI. Authorities recommended travelers to check with their individual airlines prior to traveling to the airport and stated that situations should improve in the coming hours.
"Flights to and from Bagdogra may be affected due to dense fog and low visibility," the airport said in a statement. In the coming hours, conditions should get better. Before arriving at the airport, travelers are recommended to verify the flight status with their airline.
Air India issues a cancellation warning
Similar to IndiGo, Air India issued a warning about thick fog and poor visibility in Delhi and other areas of northern and eastern India.
"This will have an impact on network-wide flight schedules. Air India stated, "We have taken proactive measures to minimize disruptions (learn more at http://bit.ly/4agYVyF)."
"However, in the event of unexpected delays, diversions, or cancellations, please rest assured that our ground staff are available to assist you with alternative arrangements," the company stated.
Additionally, the airline stated that its "FogCare" initiative enables travelers who have reservations for specific flights that are likely to be impacted during the fog window to receive advance alerts on their registered phone numbers, with the option to change their flights without incurring additional costs or request a complete refund on their reservations without incurring any penalties.
Additionally, AIr India advised its clients to check their flight status at https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html before traveling to the airport and to give themselves extra time.
"If you need any help, our contact center is open around-the-clock at +91 11 69329333 or +91 11 69329999," Air India stated.
AAI publishes advisory
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) sent an advisory earlier on Sunday, stating that fog conditions in some areas of northern India are impairing visibility and could cause flight operations at some airports to be delayed or altered.
Travelers were instructed to use official channels to check flight information with their particular airlines and to give themselves extra time to get to airports and finish all required paperwork.
"Visibility is being hampered by fog in some parts of Northern India, which could cause delays or modifications to aircraft operations at several airports. According to AAI's caution, "passengers are advised to check flight updates with their airlines through official channels and allow extra time for airport travel and formalities."
In order to ensure smooth operations and passenger safety in the face of heavy fog, the AAI sent passenger assistance teams to impacted airports to offer guidance and on-ground help to travelers during bad weather.
Warning of dense fog
Dense to extremely dense fog was forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday night and early Sunday morning in a number of northern and central Indian states.
