Arattai vs. WhatsApp: Sridhar Vembu of Zoho claims that Indian user data remains in India

In the midst of an online argument pitting Arattai against WhatsApp, founder Sridhar Vembu claims that Zoho does not hold Arattai data on AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.

In the midst of an online discussion over data privacy and encryption in relation to WhatsApp, Sridhar Vembu stated on Tuesday that the data of Indian users on Arattai and other Zoho apps stays in India solely.

The founder of Zoho posted on X, formerly Twitter, that "Indian customer data is hosted in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and soon Odisha)." In particular, Arattai is not hosted on Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services. Although they don't keep data, we use some of such services for regional switching nodes to increase traffic speed.

Vembu's remarks were intended to address "a lot of false information we want to correct" regarding the Arattai app, which has sparked a resurgence of interest among Indian users following the social media endorsements of the chat app by Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Dharmendra Pradhan. As a result of this reaction, Arattai is now the most downloaded app on the App Store and is very close to the Top 100 on the Google Play store.

Every Zoho product is created in India. In his X post, Vembu continued, "We pay taxes in India on our worldwide income, and our global headquarters are in Chennai." "We have offices in more than 80 countries and a strong presence in the US, which is a big market for us as a global corporation with our headquarters in India."
"We truly mean it when we say, 'Made in India, Made for the World.'"
