A Madras High Court ordered the CBFC to approve the distribution of Vijay's film Jana Nayagan, marking a significant victory for the film's producers.
Actor Vijay's much awaited movie Jana Nayagan has been postponed due to a growing dispute over its censor certification. It has now been revealed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has been ordered by the Madras High Court to award the movie a U/A 16+ certificate.
Madras High Court issues a U/A 16+ certificate
The Madras High Court reportedly requested that the CBFC provide a U/A 16+ certificate for Vijay's movie Jana Nayagan on Friday. In a significant victory for Vijay's movie, the high court mandated censorship and requested that the CBFC approve it for release.
This follows the Madras High Court's reservation of its ruling regarding the release of the Vijay movie during its most recent hearing on Wednesday. An attorney for KVN Productions and the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) for the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) debated the fate of Vijay's last film, Jana Nayagan, during a hearing at the Madras High Court on Wednesday afternoon. After hearing both sides of the dispute, Justice PT Asha postponed making a decision.
The individual who filed the complaint that prevented the censor certificate from being released on January 9th was revealed in court to be a member of the examining committee. Additionally, the ASG disclosed that the CBFC Chairperson had decided to stop the Vijay movie's certification process.
ASG ARL Sundaresan, speaking on behalf of the CBFC, informed the court that a member of the examination committee had brought forward the allegation regarding Jana Nayagan. His criticisms were not captured on camera while the movie was being shown. Additionally, the ASG contended that even after the film was shown to the examining committee, as it was in this case, the CBFC Chairperson had the power to mandate a review.
Concerning the movie
Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Vijay appear in the H Vinoth-directed movie. For Pongal, it was scheduled for release on January 9. The movie received a lot of attention as Vijay's last project before running with TVK in the Tamil Nadu elections this year. Despite a delay in receiving the censor certificate, tickets were sold for up as ₹2000 once reservations began in Karnataka, Kerala, and beyond. The production house's attorney claimed to have ₹500 crore invested in the movie during hearings on January 6 and 7.
