Elon Musk's X received a notice from the center regarding explicit content on Grok AI, requesting that the content be removed immediately. According to the IT Act, noncompliance could result in legal action. MP Priyanka Chaturvedi's concerns over AI abuse on social media prompted the notification.

Elon Musk's X received a notice from the federal authorities on Friday regarding pornographic and sexually explicit content on Grok AI. It threatened to take legal action against the site if it did not immediately remove all offensive and unlawful information, especially that produced by its AI program Grok.

This occurs in the midst of widespread indignation following a letter from Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi to Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw expressing concerns regarding the purported abuse of artificial intelligence tools on social media to disseminate offensive images of women through fictitious accounts.

Due diligence requirements under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 have been violated, according to a notice sent to X's Chief Compliance Officer for its operations in India by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

"...X is hereby directed to...remove or disable access, without delay, to all content already generated or disseminated in violation of applicable laws, in strict compliance with the timelines prescribed under the IT Rules, 2021, without vitiating the evidence in any manner," the letter continued.

Additionally, the ministry has asked for an action-taken report that calls for quick compliance to stop the misuse of AI-based services like "Grok" to host, create, publish, transmit, or share obscene, nude, indecent, and sexually explicit content.

"It is reiterated that non-compliance with the...requirements shall be viewed seriously and may result in strict legal consequences against your platform, its responsible officers, and the users on the platform who violate the law, without any further notice, under the IT Act, the IT Rules, the BNSS, the BNS and other applicable laws," the letter continued.

(This is an evolving narrative. There will be more.)
