Is OnePlus Shutting Down? Reports Claim Internal Restructuring as CEO Responds

Recent reports suggesting that smartphone brand OnePlus is shutting down due to declining sales have been officially denied by the company. OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has clarified that the company’s operations in India are continuing as normal.

The speculation began after a report published by Android Headlines, which claimed that OnePlus was being dismantled internally. The report cited falling sales figures, cancelled product launches, and unnamed internal sources as reasons for its conclusion. The claims quickly gained traction online, raising concerns among users and industry watchers.

Responding to the reports, Liu took to X (formerly Twitter) to address what he described as misinformation. In his post, he stated that OnePlus India is operating normally and will continue to do so. He also reiterated the company’s long-standing slogan, “Never Settle.”

Along with his statement, Liu shared an image clarifying that recent unverified reports about OnePlus shutting down are false. The message urged stakeholders and the public to rely on official sources rather than spreading unsubstantiated claims.

Despite the rumours, OnePlus has remained active in the Indian market. The company launched its flagship OnePlus 15 in November, followed by the OnePlus 15R and OnePlus Pad Go 2 in December. However, reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Oppo sub-brand may have shelved plans for the OnePlus Open 2, a notebook-style foldable device, as well as the compact OnePlus 15s.

The brand has also been facing growing competition in the smartphone market. According to data from IDC, OnePlus’ market share declined from 3.6% in Q3 2024 to 2.4% in Q3 2025, representing a year-on-year drop of over 30%. In contrast, its parent company Oppo maintained a stable 13.9% market share during the same period.

OnePlus India Faces GST Tax Notice

Apart from addressing shutdown rumours, OnePlus India is also reportedly dealing with a ₹93 crore tax notice issued by the GST department. According to a report by The Economic Times, the notice is linked to the company’s lifetime screen replacement programme introduced for devices affected by the green line display issue.

The matter was disclosed in a regulatory filing submitted to the Registrar of Companies. OnePlus stated that tax authorities conducted inquiries and inspections related to its “Green Line Worry Free Solution” initiative. The company has deposited ₹10 crore under protest but has reportedly been advised by senior legal counsel that it has a strong case and a low likelihood of additional liability.

For now, OnePlus has firmly denied any shutdown plans, maintaining that its business operations in India remain unaffected despite market challenges and regulatory scrutiny.
