21-year-old Edward Nathan Varghese, a final-year student at IIT Hyderabad, received an unprecedented ₹2.5 crore employment offer from multinational trading company Optiver. According to reports, he will start working for IITH in July, offering the biggest compensation package since the company's founding in 2008.
Final-year computer science engineering student Edward Nathan Varghese made history at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) when he accepted a record-breaking ₹2.5 crore job offer from Optiver, a multinational trading company with headquarters in the Netherlands.
The Times of India reports that Varghese would start working for the company in July.
According to reports, this is the institute's biggest compensation package since its founding in 2008.
Varghese told TOI that he will never forget the moment he learned about the offer. "I had my first and only interview with this company. When my mentor told me that I would be receiving an offer from the company, I was overjoyed. "My parents were too," he said.
Varghese expressed his confidence that recruiters would continue to visit the school because of the IIT moniker. I was aware that the current work market would have little impact. He added, "I've been involved in competitive programming since my first year of engineering and am among the top 100 in the nation."
He attributed his achievement to IIT Hyderabad's adaptable academic program, pointing out that being able to select from a variety of courses improved his performance during the interview process. Varghese, whose parents are engineers, also mentioned how lucky he was to get a pre-placement offer (PPO).
Two weeks of training preceded a six-week project during the summer internship at the company.
