Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Thursday that the government is prepared to operate the first Vande Bharat sleeper train on the Guwahati–Kolkata route, with tickets ranging from around ₹2,300 to ₹3,600 for various travel classes to Howrah, following the completion of trials, testing, and certification.
According to ANI, he said at a news conference that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon launch the first sleeper train. According to reports, he will officially open it in the next 15 to 20 days, on January 17 or 18.

By contrasting it with the airfares on the Guwahati–Howrah route, which he said vary from ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 and occasionally reach ₹10,000, "The 3AC fare from Guwahati to Howrah in the Vande Bharat Sleeper has been set at approximately ₹2,300, which is quite affordable for common passengers," stated Vaishnaw. In the meantime, the 2AC fare will cost about ₹3,000. Additionally, the First AC fare has been suggested at roughly ₹3,600 with consideration for the middle class.
According to the minister, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is intended to give passengers a quick, pleasant, and contemporary travel experience on long-distance trips longer than 1,000 kilometers. He added that the train has state-of-the-art sleeping cars, an enhanced suspension system, and cutting-edge safety technologies to guarantee increased comfort during overnight travel.

Under the direction of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Indian Railways successfully completed the last high-speed trial of the locally built and produced Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. According to the ANI report, the train reached a top speed of 180 kmph during the experiment on the Kota–Nagda line, which was a significant milestone in India's drive for cutting-edge and independent rail technology.
Ride stability, oscillation and vibration behavior, braking effectiveness, emergency brake systems, safety devices, and other crucial factors were all checked during the trial's rigorous technical evaluations. It was stated that the CRS deemed the trial a success after finding the train's performance at high speeds to be completely adequate.
