PAN-Aadhaar linking: If your PAN card isn't connected to Aadhaar by December 31st, will it be deactivated?

If your PAN is not connected to Aadhaar by December 31st, it will become unusable. Making your PAN inoperable has a number of repercussions, including fines.

Deadline for PAN-Aadhaar Linking: Less than ten days remain before the deadline to link your Aadhaar and PAN. Those who have not yet connected their PAN to their Aadhaar will encounter a number of challenges.

December 31, 2025, is the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linkage. Those who have not completed Aadhaar-PAN linking will have their unlinked PAN rendered inoperable as of January 1, 2026.

The Income Tax Department's most recent notification, dated April 3, 2025, states that individuals whose PAN was assigned using an Aadhaar number prior to October 1, 2024, must finish the PAN-Aadhaar linking process by the end of this year.

The deadline for finishing the linking for other people was May 31, 2024. If this isn't done, PAN won't function, which has dire repercussions.

What happens if PAN is not connected to Aadhaar?

TCS/TDS certificates won't be available, credit won't show up in Form 26AS, and you'll have to pay more TDS/TCS.
Opening a bank account, obtaining credit or debit cards, depositing more than ₹50,000 in cash at the bank, or making more than ₹10,000 in bank transactions are all prohibited.
In addition to other inconveniences, there will be KYC limitations.

Additionally, stockbrokers and mutual funds may halt operations.
How may PAN-Aadhaar be linked online?
Step 1: You will be required to pay a penalty of ₹1,000 unless you have previously paid the price. To begin, visit the Income Tax e-filing portal.

Step 2: Choose Link Aadhaar under Quick Links.

Step 3: Enter your name as it appears on Aadhaar, along with your PAN and Aadhaar number. Click "Validate."

Step 4: Pay the ₹1,000 as directed and enter the OTP that was issued to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

Step 4: Return to the e-filing portal a few days after your payment has been validated.

Step 5: Return to Quick Links' Link Aadhaar option and enter your information as previously.

Step 6: "Your payment details are verified" should now appear in a pop-up window. Click "Continue."

Step 7: Enter your cellphone number and name according to Aadhaar.

Step 8: After reviewing all the information, check the boxes and consent to have your Aadhaar verified.

Step 9: Select Link Aadhaar, input the six-digit OTP, then select Validate.
