CEO of Qatar Airways: Hamad al-Khater has been appointed CEO of state-owned Qatar Airways, the airline announced on Sunday.
Khater's appointment as CEO of the Qatar Airways group will take effect on December 7, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, who held the position from October 2023, will be replaced as CEO by Hamad al-Khater. He had taken over for one of the most vocal leaders in the airline business, Akbar Al Baker, who had retired after nearly thirty years in charge.
Mr. Hamad Ali Al-Khater has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways Group, beginning Sunday, December 7, 2025. According to a press announcement from the airline, Mr. Al-Khater takes over for Engineer Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
Khater will be in charge of "ensuring the safety and reliability of airport operations, while leading its strategic direction, operational excellence, infrastructure expansion, and the continuous enhancement of passenger experience" in his new position.
Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, chairman of the board of directors of Qatar Airways Group, applauded his appointment.

Hamad al-Khater: Who is he?
In his most recent position, Hamad al-Khater was the chief operating officer at Hamad International Airport.
He also served as the airport's vice president of business development, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Khater held key positions at QatarEnergy before to working at Hamad International Airport, spearheading commercial development, closing deals, and overseeing significant strategic and operational projects.
He worked for several oil and gas companies before spending more than eight years at QatarEnergy.
In 2009, Hamad al-Khater began working for Qatar Petroleum as an LNG market analyst. In 2011, he joined Shell as a commercial advisor. He worked for the company for a short time before returning to Qatar Petroleum as a senior LNG market analyst. In 2013, he moved on to RasGas.
Khater has held board positions in a number of businesses, such as Nebras Power QSC, QAFCO (Qatar Fertilizer Company), Al Koot Insurance & Reinsurance Company, and QatarEnergy Trading.
Hamad al-Khater graduated from the University of Kent with a BBA with a focus on marketing and business administration.
