The disruption infuriated internet users, who were just beginning the holiday season this morning. They claimed that they shouldn't have to depend on "servers that get attacked every two weeks."
Due to a purported outage of Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Christmas Day, thousands of gamers worldwide complained that their favorite gaming platforms, including as ARC Raiders, Steam, Fortnite, and the Epic Games Store, stopped mid-play.
Numerous internet services have been reported to be difficult to access by users globally, especially in the United States. Around 9:30 PM EST on Wednesday, almost 4,000 users reported problems, according to Downdetector.
AWS, however, has denied reports that there was a server outage.
Netizens responded as follows:
The disruption infuriated internet users, who were just starting the holiday season this morning. They claimed they shouldn't have to depend on "servers that get attacked every two weeks."
"You can't all rely on these same servers that are attacked every two weeks; I'm so tired of AWS falling down and taking everything with it. One user said, "Please."
"Oh. AWS is down once more! You have to do it! An irate customer questioned, "What's Jeff Bezos doing with our subscriptions?"
"Not playing Fortnite, AWS servers are down, will you all compensate players who can't open presents?" inquired a player.
"Ridiculous that we're dead in the water because Epic is down," a player wrote in response to a post regarding the Epic Online Services outage. Because the game uses UE, Epic shouldn't be a bottleneck; we play on AWS and launch via Steam. The system is broken when a single third-party "bridge" service has the ability to lock out all players. We require a long-term solution.
"HOLY SERVER APOCALYPSE! 🎮💥 On Christmas Eve, #ArcRaiders, #CallofDuty, #Fortnite, and #Rust are DOWN, CRASHED, and OBLITERATED! 😱 We're stuck twiddling our thumbs with no ETA after 346K Arc players were sent into the ether! Is this an actual cyberattack? A gamer said.
"A lot of things are down," said another. Hackers have previously attempted to ruin games and other things for Christmas. I wouldn't be shocked if this happened again.
Another game stated, "AWS said merry Christmas by shutting down."
"Services operating normally": AWS refutes reports of outages
AWS vehemently denied any interruption to its infrastructure in reaction to the outage reports. "No, that's false," the company's official AWS Newsroom account wrote in a post on X. Although AWS services are running smoothly today, some false rumors on social media have been sparked by an online incident.
Additionally, the business made it clear that the official AWS Health Dashboard is the only trustworthy way to verify the operating state of its services.
Confusion brought on by problems with other parties?
Although AWS did not identify the source of the uncertainty, these kinds of situations frequently arise when regional network providers or third-party services have technical problems that have an indirect impact on customer access.
