After tackling and disarming one of the two gunmen at Bondi Beach during Sunday's deadly massacre, Ahmed al Ahmed was hailed as a hero.
On Friday, a USD 2.5 million check from community donations was delivered to Ahmed Al Ahmed, the 43-year-old man who attacked the Bondi beach shooter and saved many lives in the fatal shooting last week. The check was given to Ahmed from his hospital bed while he was receiving treatment for the injuries he acquired during the horrifying shooting.
After disarming one of the two gunmen at Bondi Beach last weekend, Ahmed, a father of two, was praised as a hero. He came out from behind a car parked in the lot, overpowered the gunman, and took his firearm. After visiting Ahmed in the hospital last week, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese referred to him as "the best of our country."
Ahmed might lose an arm, according to his immigration attorney earlier. Ahmed is ill and has trouble getting better, according to Issa. The Age cited him as stating, "Our hero is struggling at the moment."
Issa said, "A lot worse than expected" for Ahmed, who is still recuperating from his initial round of surgery.
According to Issa, Ahmed was hit by five gunshots in his left arm and one bullet in his back that hasn't been extracted yet.
Issa stated that Ahmed does not regret what he did and would be willing to repeat it even if he is in pain.
"He is even worse than anticipated. Issa told the news outlet, "You don't think of serious injuries when you think of a bullet in the arm, but he has lost a lot of blood."
Who is the Bondi hero, Ahmed al Ahmed?
According to reports, Ahmed owns a fruit store. He was a bystander who fled to the gunman and grabbed his firearm after hiding behind parked automobiles.
He is being praised for his courage and quick thinking in saving lives. The Australian prime minister and other world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, are also expressing gratitude to the man, who is also a father of two, on social media.
Trump remarked, "It's been a very, very brave person, actually, who went and attacked one of the shooters frontally and saved a lot of lives."
Bondi Beach gunfight
On December 7, thousands of people had congregated at Sydney's Bondi Beach to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hannukah when two gunmen, 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram, opened fire.
Naveed suffered serious injuries after a confrontation with the police, while Sajid was killed. A few days later, as he awoke from his coma in his hospital bed, he was taken into custody. Fifteen individuals were killed and numerous others were injured in the attack.
