China responds to Donald Trump's 10% tariff comments by promising to protect the "national interest."

According to US President Donald Trump, he is thinking of levying a 10% tariff on all Chinese imports.

According to news agency AFP, a Chinese foreign ministry official stated on Wednesday that China would defend its "national interests" following remarks made by US President Donald Trump that a 10% tariff on Chinese imports could be implemented starting on February 1.

Spokesman Mao Ning stated that China was "firmly committed to safeguarding national interests" and that "we have always believed that there are no winners in a trade war or a tariff war."

In order to curb the flow of fentanyl supplied from China to Mexico and Canada, Trump stated at a White House news conference that he is thinking of imposing a 10% duty on Chinese imports starting on February 1.

The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), which has determined that the global fentanyl supply chain "often starts with chemical companies based in China," supports Donald Trump's assertions as well. According to the DEA, one of the largest drug risks in the United States is fentanyl, an extremely addictive opioid.

"We're talking about about 25 percent (tariffs) for Mexico and China," Trump stated, likely referring to Canada and Mexico.

Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico, which would allow illegal immigrants and fentanyl to enter the United States.

Trump claimed that while he spoke about the risks of fentanyl at his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping last week, he did not bring up tariffs.

Additionally, Donald Trump asserted that Joe Biden failed to adequately follow up on an agreement he had made with Xi on drug dealing during his first term.

Trump stated, "I had an agreement with him that he would punish drug dealers with the harshest punishment possible, which is the death penalty in China, and he was all set."

He intended to impose the death penalty as the harshest punishment possible on fentanyl dealers who shipped their drugs to the United States. Biden, of course, failed to see that. I had completed that transaction. "It was all finished," he continued.

Trump asserted that fentanyl would not have been sent to Mexico, Canada, and other countries in the first place if the death sentence had been implemented in accordance with his agreement.
